The Summer Academy consisted of 2 weeks of preparatory sessions, lectures and workshops, fieldwork in the Amazon and post-production work (Quito and Tena). The lectures and workshops had essential topics covering both the preparation and the film production, such as Language and culture promotion / Linguistic and cultural documentation / Visual Storytelling and Film Language / Language and Culture: Tools to reflect on the context from the perspective of people and nationalities / Methodology on collaborative work in the community and audiovisual pieces in the Amazon.
I was assigned to two main roles: -during the fieldwork as a lighting assistant; and I was in charge of leading the animation production. I felt like my academic knowledge of software usage and many years of teamwork experience in the graphic industry benefited me to achieve desirable results for this project. It has further improved my way of creating the workflow, using various software and programs to be efficient. My approach to learning about appropriate communication styles and behaviours in intercultural situations has been inspired throughout the process of studying the cultural background of local and indigenous communities in Ecuador. It has been a pleasure to work with UDLA and BU professionals.
